Department Overview:

 The School of Education and the Department of Theatre and Drama is home to talented students learning and training alongside faculty with diverse experiences in the performing arts.

University Theatre is the producing arm of the Department of Theatre and Drama. Each year, the UW-Madison Department of Theatre and Drama produces several exciting productions in impressive spaces including the 291-seat Ronald E. Mitchell Theatre and the Gilbert V. Hemsley, Jr. Theatre, a flexible black box space.

Schedule:

 University Theatre performances are primarily Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings (curtain time 7:30 PM) as well as Saturday and Sunday afternoon matinees (curtain time 2:00 PM). There are also occasional student matinees for area schools that take place in the morning (curtain time 10:00 AM). UT Front of House shifts generally run 4 hours from worker arrival to after audience departure. Front of House staff also serve student and rental performances in the UT theatres; dates and times vary.

Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

 Minimum: $14.00/hr

Qualifications:

 * Current UW student (undergrad or grad) in good standing.
* Do not have to be a theatre major.
* Familiarity with theatre or performances venues helpful but not required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

* Outstanding customer service.
* Ability to supervise ushers.
* Excellent communication skills - particularly verbal.
* Demonstrate responsibility in maintaining theatre space and equipment.
* Composure when presented with issues or emergencies.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

* House Managers
- Unlock, lock outer and theatre doors.
- Ensure cleanliness of lobby and restrooms.
- Greet audience, answer questions, and respond to concerns.
- Maintain communication with Stage Managers for coordinating house open, top of show, intermission, and close of show.
- Understand emergency procedures for audience safety and directing patrons to designated shelter areas.
- Assist with any video displays (turning on/off for performances).
- Submit report information to Production Administrator.

* Lead Ushers
- Supervise volunteer ushers.
- Help direct patrons to proper seating areas and restrooms.
- Assist patrons needing accessible seating to designated sections.
- Maintain and use ticket scanners (work with Box Office rep for any issues).
- Work with House Manager on closing/opening theatre doors for performance.
- Monitor audience during performance for any disruptions and take appropriate action (coordinating with House Manager).
- Ensure house is clean after audience has exited.

Physical Demands:

Must be able to stand for extended periods and navigate stairs.
Lift 10-25 lbs.
