Schedule:

Sunday through Saturday, hours will vary based on the program activities.

Staff will have one full day off a week along with scheduled breaks throughout the day. Additional time off may be provided, but this will be dependent on the needs of the program.

Qualifications:

Open to all graduate students, regardless of school or college affiliation.

Employment is contingent on acceptance to graduate program before Summer 2027.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Previous experience or strong desire to work with and empower students from diverse backgrounds (cultural, economic, ethnic, and regional backgrounds)

Previous experience or willingness to develop skills to be a positive role model and mentor to high school students, especially those who may need more support engaging in the community

Comfortable leading difficult conversations with empathy. This includes conversations that require you to give and receive feedback

Ability to enforce policies and procedures while still developing positive, trusting relationships with students and staff

Strong, independent decision-making and organizational skills

Must possess excellent interpersonal communication, group facilitation, and social emotional skills

Ability to be a team player and leader in different situations and shift to meet the changing needs of summer programs

Must be punctual and prompt when attending activities on time and submitting projects by the desired deadlines

Valid driver's license to operate UW fleet vehicles preferred but not required

Position Summary/Job Duties:

The Wisconsin School of Business (WSB) Precollege Programs and Business Emerging Leaders (BEL) Scholarship programs, housed in the WSB Undergraduate Program Office, provide leadership and business exploration opportunities for students with diverse backgrounds and experiences. Participants explore business majors through job shadowing and networking opportunities, explore their personal identities, and participate in applied learning activities.

WSB Precollege Programs offers an array of immersive programs that support high school students’ career exploration in business. Precollege program experiences include school year workshops and 4-day long summer day camps. The BEL program offers scholars financial support, community building opportunities, and an early start, three week summer program, Bridge to BEL, for incoming scholarship recipients.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Build a strong mentoring relationship with program participants

Create a safe and inclusive atmosphere where all participants can build connections and share their unique experiences

Ensure the completion of daily record keeping responsibilities which include attendance tracking and incident reporting

Lead program activities to expand participants’ knowledge of business majors, college readiness, leadership, teamwork, and personal development.

Provide guidance, leadership, and serve as a supervisor and mentor to the PSL’s

During Bridge to BEL residential program: Oversee implementation of nightly supervision protocols and communicate updates to program leadership

Maintain frequent, ongoing communication, both in person and via phone/text, with PSL’s, Teaching Staff, BEL and Pre-College Services Manager, and Director of BEL and Pre-College Programs.

Anticipate and address the social/emotional needs and interests of students. Monitor and document these needs and how you supported regularly

Enforce program policies to ensure the health and safety of participants and staff

Other relevant duties as assigned

Time commitment:

Dates of employment: May 18, 2027 to July 31, 2027

40 hours/week, hours scheduled each week will vary

Must commit to working every weekend in July



Requirements :

Must be able to commit to working all of the dates of employment in order to receive full stipend amount.

Staff are required to live in University Housing from Sunday, June 20, 2027 to Saturday, July 31, 2027. Staff can start living in University Housing as early as Sunday, May 30, 2027, if that is a need.

Staff must participate in the following training dates:

-Tuesday, June 1, 2027 to Friday, June 10, 2027, 9:00 am – 4:30 pm
-Tuesday, July 6, 2027 and July 7, 2027, 9 am – 4:30 pm

Physical Demands:

Occasionally lifting items up to 10-15 pounds

Occasionally sitting, walking, or standing for extended periods of time

Supervising camp activities for extended periods of time in various summer weather conditions (heat, rain, etc.)
