Department Overview:
WPM is a division of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Support from individuals, businesses, foundations and the government ensure commercial-free access to news, information, music and entertainment for all. Wisconsin Public Media seeks one or more students to work weekdays, late mornings through mid-afternoons. Hours are arranged in advance but flexible. The roles will cover mailroom activity for all departments in Vilas Communication Hall with specific added support for Wisconsin Public Media and their services Wisconsin Public Radio and PBS Wisconsin. In addition to Wisconsin Public Media, Vilas Communication Hall houses: Department of Journalism, Department of Theatre and Drama, and Department of Communications Arts. Daily tasks include: collecting outgoing mail from throughout the building, metering outgoing mail, receiving and sorting incoming mail and deliveries, delivering incoming mail to departments and communicating with departmental staff. The ideal candidate is reliable, communicative, can work independently, but also must use good judgement to know when help is required and ask for assistance.

-Current Student -Careful and detail-oriented approach to work, ensuring accuracy and completeness
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
Must be able to learn to use a simple cost accounting system to assign postage costs. Must be able to sort mail alphabetically and use physical and online directories to find information about the location of the mail addressees.
Position Summary/Job Duties:
Weekdays, 2 or 3 days per week. A typical shift is 10:00 am - 2:00 pm or 11:00 am - 3:00 pm. The successful applicant will work from the Vilas Communication Hall mailroom. They will receive and deliver mail and meter outgoing mail. In consultation with the mailroom supervisor they will create shipping labels for packages.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to navigate the building with a small cart and lift 20 pounds.
