Department Overview: |
The Southeast Asian Flagship Language Initiative (SEAFLI) is a special initiative of the Boren Awards for International Study offering awardees the opportunity for intensive language study of Bahasa Indonesia, Thai, and Vietnamese and for cultural immersion by participating in domestic and overseas language programs. Participants in SEAFLI may start with no language proficiency through advanced proficiency in Bahasa Indonesia, Thai, and Vietnamese. The SEAFLI program is administered through the University of Wisconsin-Madison. SEAFLI students participate in a full-time domestic summer program offered at UW-Madison through SEASSI. Students then travel abroad to Malang, Chiang Mai, or Hanoi for a full-time fall semester of language and culture study. Requests for additional study through the spring semester can be made to Boren during the application process. All participants must complete both the summer domestic and fall abroad programs. In addition to full-time language courses, students will have language partners, language conversation tables (summer), homestays (fall), and cultural excursions to help ensure that language goals are being met. |

As all SEAFLI language classes will be held in-person for the duration of the Summer 2025 term, it is expected that this position will perform mostly in-person to accommodate the needs of Indonesian, Thai, and Vietnamese language learners. Preference will be given to in-person candidates, but we will consider remote positions if being present on campus in person is not possible. MINIMALLY 4.5 hours/week (2hrs with students, 0.5 hrs. of prep per hour of face-to-face time with students, and 0.5 hrs. weekly check-in meetings with Supervisor/Pedagogy Coordinator) (Max 15 hours/week) Schedule to be coordinated between students and language partners. |
Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum: |
Minimum: $12.00 Maximum: $18.00 |
Number of Positions: |
The number of positions will depend on student enrollment in the summer programs. Hiring is contingent upon Federal funding and will take place later in spring. |
