Department Overview:

UHS offers award-winning, high quality medical, mental health, prevention, and wellness services to enrolled UW-Madison students. Alcohol and other drug prevention efforts at UHS involve a variety of population level strategic initiatives and projects with the goal of preventing student substance misuse. UHS works to strengthen campus practices and policies, shift cultural norms around substance use, and build the capacity of all members of the campus community to support an environment where alcohol and other drug use does not impact individuals and the community negatively. Many of our efforts involve supporting non-drinkers and students in recovery as a major priority for the health and success of all our students.

Schedule:

20 hours per week (50% appointment), some evening and weekend hours required.

Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

$34.27/hour

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree (Psychology, Social Work, Education, Population Health or a related field preferred)

Currently enrolled in a graduate or professional program at UW-Madison

Ability to work with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff at UW-Madison

Must be a strong communicator, including writing, editing, and public speaking

Demonstrated ability to facilitate presentations and navigate challenging participants

Highly responsible and effective with deadlines, working independently, self-motivating and following through

Exceptional organizational skills, including experience with developing and/or utilizing tracking documents for complex projects

Ability to regularly work in the office during business hours with a set schedule and some remote hours.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Competitive candidates will have in-depth knowledge of alcohol and other drug prevention work

Experience developing, delivering, and evaluating trainings for diverse audiences

Experience with qualitative data collection, data analysis, and report writing

Experience using Qualtrics, Box, and university-sponsored technologies

Applicants with the potential to stay in Assistantship role for at least 2 semesters are preferred

Position Summary/Job Duties:

1. Presentation and Facilitation
-Assist in the development of educational presentations and training for students
-Present educational training to students upon request
-Conduct focus groups and interviews to inform our alcohol and other drug initiatives

2. Program Evaluation
-Plan and implement ongoing assessment and evaluation of initiatives, collect and analyze data, use findings to improve practice.
-Analyze and synthesize data and findings and share with partners and stakeholders via written reports

3. General Programmatic Support (as requested)
-Assist in developing and deploying educational and informational materials and campaigns including web-based materials, power point slides, and hard-copy handouts, and signs
-Engage in professional development relating to substance use and collegiate recovery


-Represent UHS at campus meetings, workgroups, and committees as requested
-Review research and literature on topics related to substance use prevention and recovery in a college setting and produce briefing documents
-Cross-train on issues of violence prevention, mental health promotion, and suicide prevention to help create opportunities for intersectionality in AOD work.
