Student Helper - Soil Science
Job no: 509063
Position type: UW Student Jobs
Location: Not Remote
Division/Equivalent: College of Agricultural & Life Sciences
School/Unit: Soil Science
Categories: Critical Thinking/Problem Solving, Agriculture and Natural Resources
Department Overview: |
Dr. Thea Whitman’s soil biogeochemistry and soil microbial ecology research lab seeks interested individuals to participate in a year long research project. This project investigates the vertical distribution dynamics of pyrogenic carbon (PyC) within the top 15 cm of soil throughout one year post-fire. Working with planned prescribed burns, we plan to use the CTO-375 to quantify PyC in different soil depths over time, supplemented by tracing stable isotope-labeled PyC in field trials and laboratory incubations. This approach will allow us to accurately track PyC movement and assess microbial preference for using PyC versus other SOC sources over time, with implications of PyC persistence and turnover. |
