Department Overview:

 Environmental Toxicology lab at the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH).

The WSLH serves as the public, environmental, and occupational health laboratory for the state of Wisconsin, and is part of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Work for this position is conducted off-campus at our lab located on the southeast side of Madison (2601 Agriculture Drive).

Qualifications:

 • Currently enrolled undergraduate student
• A strong preference will be given to a student willing to make a 1 year or longer commitment
• Previous training or an interest in science and/or biology
• Reliable transportation to lab; weekend/holiday bus service not readily available
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record

Position Summary/Job Duties:

We are looking for a reliable and committed student assistant team member to help with weekend and holiday work. Additional hours during the week also available during the semester, school breaks and summer.

The employee in this position will work with a team of environmental toxicologists and oversee the health and performance of the culture organisms, and conduct aquatic toxicity tests. We will provide the training for you to be successful in the job. This is an opportunity to gain valuable laboratory experience while participating in a statewide toxicity testing program. Occasional assistance with transporting samples from testing facilities to the lab using a UW Campus fleet vehicle may be needed.

Duties include:
• Culturing aquatic organisms (fish and aquatic invertebrates)
• Performing aquatic toxicological testing
• Performing QA/QC tasks

Physical Demands:

Must be able to occasionally lift and carry 40 pounds
