The Residential Peer Mentor for the Summer STEM Catalyst Program will be an integral part of a new residential program within the Division of Diversity, Equity and Educational Achievement (DDEEA). The Summer Catalyst Program aims to host 15 incoming first-year UW-Madison CeO* students on-campus for four weeks. During the program, students will conduct research in world-class labs, engage in a 1-credit hour research skills course and acclimate to student-life. Peer mentors for the program will take the lead on creating an inclusive community by living in the same residential hall as the participants and offering intentional mentorship and engaging programing throughout the four-weeks. Peer mentors will be responsible for planning and facilitating evening and weekend group activities, creating a welcoming and supportive environment for all participants in the program, enforcing residential rules and policies, and sharing their knowledge and experiences with the Catalyst participants. Residential Peer Mentors will begin assisting in summer planning for a total of 40 hours (at $18/hour) from early May to June, 2024. The planning can either be completed in-person and/or remotely. From June 22nd through July 20th, Residential Peer mentors will be paid a salary of $3,000 to support the staff and students of the Summer Catalyst program (24 hours/7 days a week). Breaks will be provided during the program to maintain an average of 40 hours/week during the four-weeks.
