The project focuses on how students develop principle-based reasoning about core physiological concepts such as flux and mass balance, and how classroom experiences can support deeper scientific understanding. This research explores how students learn to reason through complex biological systems, connect principles to real physiological processes, and refine their thinking over time.
This in-person research experience will support students interested in developing science education research skills. Students will receive mentorship, engage in collaborative research meetings, and learn how theory informs data analysis and interpretation in education research.

Ideal candidates have an interest in science policy, agriculture, or public policy, along with strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a customer service mindset. A background or coursework in public policy, political science, communications, or a related field is preferred. Experience with member services, advocacy, or a nonprofit/association environment is a plus.
