Department Overview:

The Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) is involved in a variety of formal and informal education projects, ranging from classes and workshops at the University of Wisconsin to presentations at conferences, museums and workshops worldwide.

Flexible Monday - Friday schedule, except when specific programs are underway

Preference will be given to students who have declared, or intend to major, in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences (AOS). Applications from 2nd year undergraduates with similar majors are also welcome.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

NOAA's Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) is seeking an AOS undergraduate student to assist in tour groups and summer education initiatives. Tasks will vary from week to week but generally support education and public engagement initiatives at CIMSS, as well as the UW Space Science and Engineering Center (SSEC).  Example events include the CIMSS student workshop (a week-long resident science camp that requires overnight participation), Grandparents University meteorology major and the SSEC Tech Camp. The successful candidate will also contribute to a building-wide Instagram account showcasing research, resources and events at the Atmospheric, Oceanic and Space Science (AOSS) building that are of interest to the public.
