Position Summary/Job Duties:
Program Overview: In 2024, Abbott and the Big Ten held their inaugural blood donation competition, "The We Give Blood Drive," to combat the worst blood shortage we’ve seen in a generation. The competition pitted all 18 Big Ten schools against each other to see which school could donate the most blood.
Nearly 20,000 Big Ten students, alumni and fans across the country donated blood as part of the competition. With each donation saving up to three lives, the competition helped save as many as 60,000 lives. The competition did its part to help alleviate current nationwide blood shortages and educate people about the need for blood while inspiring blood donations across the country.
We are now planning for the 2025 competition with a focus on engaging all 18 Big Ten campuses across the U.S. and increasing overall blood donations.
Role Overview: We are seeking a passionate and motivated student to join our Abbott - Big Ten "We Give Blood" Campus Ambassador Program, aimed at driving blood donations at University of Wisconsin. As a Campus Ambassador, you will play a crucial role in engaging students, faculty, and community members to encourage blood donations. You will develop and implement a campus marketing and communications plan, attend blood drives, collaborate with local blood centers to schedule donation events and work with other campus ambassadors to strengthen the overall program. This role requires strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Key Responsibilities:
• Engage and Encourage: Actively engage with students, faculty, and community members to promote blood donation on campus and highlight its importance.
• Marketing Plan Development: Create and execute a comprehensive campus marketing plan to support the goal of increasing blood donations.
• Event Coordination: Attend blood drives and work with local blood centers to schedule and organize donation events. When applicable, help donors log their donation for their chosen school.
• Collaboration: Collaborate with university and athletic department leadership to maximize outreach and participation.
• Weekly Meetings: Participate in a weekly call with other ambassadors to share best practices and connect with an Abbott team member assigned to your university.
Qualifications:
• Must be a current student at Wisconsin
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Passionate about community service and making a positive impact.
• Organizational skills and attention to detail.
