Department Overview:

SSEC engineers and scientists develop and utilize space-, aircraft- and ground-based instrumentation to collect and analyze observations of the Earth’s atmosphere, oceans, land surface, and other planetary atmospheres to improve our understanding of weather, climate, and atmospheric processes. Through this research we produce new resources, products, and tools that are helping to improve the accuracy and timeliness of weather forecasts.

Remote Work Eligibility Detail:

The SSEC is taking all precautions recommended by campus and the CDC to ensure a safe work environment.

Anticipated Hours Per Week:

Preferably 40 hours, but accommodations can be made for less if needed.  


Monday - Friday, during the core hours of 8am - 5pm.

Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

$16.25/hour or more depending on experience.

Candidate must be an undergraduate student eager to acquire or strengthen their coding skills in an academic environment.

Must be trustworthy and organized, able to work independently and investigate problems, and have good communication skills. The SSEC understands that the strength of a team depends on the diversity of its members. Folks with diverse backgrounds and identities are encouraged to apply.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Experience with any of the following; Python programming language, git, docker/podman, FPGAs, or Java are highly desired. Position Summary/Job Duties:

This undergraduate job will work with a Science lead with support from our scientific instrumentation software team.

Create computer animations on the capabilities of the SSEC Portable Atmospheric Research Center (SPARC).
