Department Overview:

Applied vegetable entomology research and the field crops pathology research programs seeks qualified individuals to work in a variety of capacities to conduct field and laboratory, entomology and plant disease-related, research.

Qualifications:

Must be a current and continuing UW Madison undergraduate student and have a valid driver’s license. Ability and willingness to conduct field research with some modest manual labor, some repetitive duties and an interest to work outdoors is essential as the work will take place in potentially changing weather conditions. An agricultural background is beneficial, but not essential.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Candidates should excel at working as a team and possess good communication skills.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

• Evaluation of insecticide and fungicide efficacy trials within a variety of vegetable and field crops at different locations throughout Wisconsin.
• Trap collection and placement.
• Cultural plot management and maintenance including planting, weeding, and harvest.
• Data collection and entry skills (demonstrated proficiency with MS Office – Excel, MSWord)
• Potential operation of State owned vehicles (with proper clearance and quality driving record)
• Insect sorting and counting in research fields.
• Disease assessment and sampling
• Professional and courteous interaction with other undergraduate & graduate students, researchers, and producer cooperators

Physical Demands:

Must be willing to work outside in summer conditions
