Department Overview:
Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is Madison’s public recreation provider. MSCR offers a wide variety of athletic, recreational, arts and enrichment activities and classes for all ages in an accessible, inclusive setting. Programs include swimming instruction, MSCR on the Move, arts & enrichment classes, youth summer camps, sports camps & clinics, adult & 50+ fitness, adult sport leagues including pickleball, softball and tennis, and a wide variety of outdoor pursuits including paddling sports, pontoon trips, camping, orienteering and challenge courses. As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), MSCR also provides afterschool enrichment activities, clubs and sports as well as summer programming in Madison elementary, middle and high schools, Allied Learning Center and Meadowood Neighborhood Center. Afterschool clubs and sports include: arts & enrichment, homework/academic clubs, drama, dance, skiing, soccer, basketball, volleyball, cross country and much more!

Typically an 8.5 hour shift (with a 30 minute unpaid lunch), between the hours of 7:30am-5:30pm, M-F.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: Experience supporting individuals with complex medical needs and people with disabilities with more intense support needs. Over 18 years of age with a High School or HSED/GED and some post secondary education or certification related to field. Proven dependability and teamwork. Ability to communicate effectively, and exercise good judgment, courtesy, and tact when dealing with children, their parents/guardians, and the public. Ability to make necessary accommodations for individuals with disabilities. Preferred Qualifications: Effective problem solving and risk management skills. CPR and First Aid certification. Crisis Management and Intervention Training, Managing Threatening Confrontations training, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training or the like.

Position Summary/Job Duties:
Assist with the inclusion of youth with disabilities in inclusive summer programs and recreational activities. Provide reasonable accommodations, and collaborate with program staff to ensure active participation of all participants. Work in collaboration with program leaders and camp leadership to provide an inclusive camp experience. In addition to the above duties, Lead Recreation Inclusion Staff are expected to support the site in one or both of the following ways. The Lead Recreation Inclusion Staff takes on more responsibility due to a camper’s higher support needs. The Lead Recreation Inclusion Staff provides onsite staff coaching and capacity building for camp staff in regards to participants’ accommodation needs. Program Dates: Mandatory training: June 9 from 5:30pm-8:00pm. Training week: June 13-20, no training on June 19 Program dates: June 23-August 15. Some camps end on August 22. The specialist will be in contact with you if this is a possibility. Work Locations: Could be placed at one of our Inclusive Summer Camps across the city of Madison.
