Department Overview:

The Grant Development & Funding Department focuses on securing financial resources that support business growth, community development, workforce initiatives, and future nonprofit programs. Through strategic research, proposal development, grant management, and impact reporting, the department helps organizations access funding opportunities that create lasting economic and social impact. Team members work closely with leadership, business owners, community partners, and stakeholders to identify funding opportunities and successfully manage grant projects from application through reporting.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a college, university, or technical program
Strong written communication skills
Excellent attention to detail
Strong research and analytical abilities
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
Highly organized and self-motivated
Proficiency with Google Workspace and/or Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with academic writing, business writing, journalism, fundraising, or grant writing
Knowledge of nonprofit organizations, economic development, government programs, or small business operations
Experience utilizing AI tools for research, organization, or drafting support
Interest in public administration, communications, business development, nonprofit management, or fundraising

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge:
Basic understanding of professional writing principles
Familiarity with research methods and information gathering
Understanding of nonprofit, business, or government funding programs is preferred

Skills:
Strong written and verbal communication
Research and data collection
Organization and time management

Editing and proofreading
Computer proficiency using spreadsheets, documents, and project management tools

Abilities:

Position Summary/Job Duties:

The Grant Writing Intern supports funding and development efforts by researching grant opportunities, drafting applications, tracking deadlines, and assisting with grant administration. The intern will work closely with leadership to identify funding sources and develop proposals that support organizational growth and community impact initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Research local, state, federal, corporate, and foundation grant opportunities
Maintain databases of grant opportunities, deadlines, and eligibility requirements
Draft grant applications, proposals, letters of inquiry, and supporting materials
Develop compelling narratives using information provided by leadership and stakeholders
Assist with project descriptions, budgets, and supporting documentation
Track grant submissions and application statuses
Organize grant files and maintain accurate records
Assist with post-award reporting and compliance requirements
Collect data, outcomes, and success stories for grant reporting
Participate in meetings and support special funding initiatives as assigned
