  • Hours/week: (Summer) 15 hours minimum; (Academic Year) 5 hours minimum.
  • Assignment Office’s regular office hours are 8:00am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday.
  • Seasonal: This position is considered seasonal during the summer months and is exempt from the 30 hour per week average rule in regard to the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Hours worked may exceed 30 hours/week during the summer months.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

University Housing Ambassadors will serve two primary purposes: 1) Provide customer service to students, guests, and staff in University Housing. 2) Provide tours of the University Residence Halls to prospective students and their guests. Ambassadors need to have a thorough understanding of all departments within University Housing to answer questions/emails or direct calls/visitors appropriately. Knowledge of the University Residence Halls, Residential Learning Communities, and programs and services is essential to providing accurate information. As representatives of University Housing, Ambassadors will demonstrate support of diverse student populations and be able to articulate how living in University Housing will benefit students and enhance their Wisconsin Experience.

Communication:

  • Greet in-person visitors of University Housing.
  • Respond to emails from prospective and current students and their families; especially over the summer following the release of room assignment information.
  • Answer telephone calls about the University Residence Halls; especially over the summer following the release of room assignment information.
  • Convey a positive attitude in all of your interactions.
  • Consistently use professional and inclusive language.

Tours:

  • Manage & oversee the prospective student tour schedule.
  • Guide prospective residents & families on tours of residence hall facilities & room(s); tour volume increases during the summer.
  • Engage in discussions about Learning and Theme Communities with prospective students and families.
  • Must be available to work some special events, Saturday tours outside of normal business hours, as well as availability during Winter and Spring break if needed.

Presentations:

  • Participate in Live with Bucky Live events.
  • Help with Admission events.
  • Help with other events as needed.

Division & Student Support:

  • Process daily mail.
  • Help maintain cleanliness and professionalism at the front desk.
  • Proof read – print materials & website.
  • Test student-used systems.
  • Assist Coordinators with the Mass Assignment Process that occurs over the summer.
  • Provide student perspective and feedback.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of a criminal background check is required.
  • Minimum of 1 semester completed of living in the University Residence Halls by your start date.
