Department Overview:

The UW–Madison Physics Department awarded its first PhD in 1899. Since then our students have earned degrees in virtually every area of physics, and our faculty have played key roles in myriad important research efforts. We are training over 170 PhD students as the next generation of physics researchers who are already earning recognition and making significant accomplishments in their field. Each year, our instructional teams teach introductory physics to nearly 2000 undergrads from majors across campus. And we’re proud to have the longest-running hands-on science museum (the Ingersoll Physics Museum), one of the longest-running science demonstration shows (The Wonders of Physics), and the first MS in Physics–Quantum Computing program in the country.

Anticipated Start Date:

January 10, 2022 (later start date is possible)

Anticipated End Date (If Applicable):

May 31, 2022, may be extended through summer and possibly Fall 2022, if mutually agreeable.  

Remote Work Eligibility Detail:

The majority of the work will be in Chamberlin Hall. Some remote work may be possible, per campus policies.  

Anticipated Hours Per Week:

33.4% Project Assistant appointment.  

Schedule:

13.36 hours per week, specific hours to be worked out with Prof. Bose.

Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

This will be a graduate PA appointment at a full-time annual salary rate of $50,112. At 33.4% this would be a gross bi-weekly amount of $643.75.

Graduate standing on the UW-Madison campus. Any major welcomed.  

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Advanced interpersonal communication and intercultural skills, and the ability to skillfully manage multiple priorities. 
  • Interest and experience in working with and supporting students from under-represented and minoritized identities. 

Position Summary/Job Duties:

  • Provide support for special programs and initiatives that may be undertaken by the Climate & Diversity Committee for increasing diversity and inclusion at the department level
  • Help build diversity awareness through organization of relevant workshops and training sessions.
