Department Overview:

At the Center for Healthy Minds, we've identified four core values that guide our work toward our larger mission of a kinder, wiser, more compassionate world. Each member of our community is responsible for upholding these values and embodying them in their work.

1. Conducting our work with rigor
2. Making an impact on the world
3. Cultivating a prosocial workplace
4. Improving diversity, equity and inclusion

The University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Center for Healthy Minds (CHM) is a leader in conducting science - in and out of the lab - on how to nurture emotional well-being in daily life, considering the complexity of our human experience. Because of societal inequities in science and academia, as well as the disproportionate harm that marginalized members of our society experience - such as Black, Indigenous, People of color (BIPOC), people from poor and working-class backgrounds, persons with disabilities, women, and LGBTQ+ and non-binary identities, etc.- we believe these identities must be centered in our work in order to fulfill a vision of a kinder, wiser, more compassionate world.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

In this position, you will support the communications and outreach activities of the Plasticity of Well-Being Research Network based at the Center for Healthy Minds, University of Wisconsin-Madison. This position will be supervised by Research Assistant Professor Dr. Christine Wilson-Mendenhall and Research Program Coordinator Pablo Aquiles-Sanchez.

The Plasticity of Well-being Network is funded by the National Institute of Health (NIH) to advance research on emotional well-being. The network brings together researchers across a broad range of fields, including psychology, microbiology, community-based research, computer engineering, population health and biology, and the humanities. One of the network’s initiatives is supporting a collective of emerging scholars (e.g., graduate students, postdocs, early-career faculty)--the “WeMerge” Emerging Well-being Scholars Collective. Members of the WeMerge collective are currently engaged in projects that focus on how we do research–the emotional well-being of scholars and stakeholders (i.e., the people the research is intended to impact) involved in the research process. This work is developing new frameworks for transforming structural and interpersonal dynamics in higher education and research practices. The individual in this role will primarily work on outreach and communications regarding the work of the WeMerge Collective, as well as provide some basic communications support to community-engaged research initiatives.

Job Duties
- Help plan, design and create website for WeMerge activities and resources, as well as maintain website content
- Help draft and disseminate WeMerge newsletter
- Help create additional outreach materials and event advertisements for the WeMerge Collective and the network’s related community-engaged research initiative
