Department Overview:
The WCIC has 40 full time and 10 part time staff that work on a number of facets of plant biotechnology and there is a good opportunity to learn more about that science while you are helping on this team The Center is a UW building, located off campus in the Middleton area (8520 University Green, Middleton). Parking is free and there is a bus line from downtown/campus.

Schedule:
General work hours are 9-5pm. 20+ hours a week for the summer. Ideally have availability to work at least Monday - Wednesday.

UW student
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
Basic biology and understanding of DNA General lab bench experience, specifically with micro-pipetting. Attention to detail. Experience with plants is helpful but all training can be provided.
Position Summary/Job Duties:
Main tasks each week: Plant leaf sampling, DNA extraction, DNA digestion, PCR, qPCR, ddPCR The day to day job include sampling plant leaf tissue in the greenhouse , DNA extractions in 96-well plates, and PCR for genetic analysis. Documentation in lab notebook and computer files is also important to the job role. Some tasks will be completed in small teams and others individually.
Physical Demands:
Greenhouse light and temperatures. Work with some sharp objects.
